The Power of Feeling & the Sub-Consciousness Mind

When a desire becomes a steady thought, its success is assured. – Inayat Khan

Sufi Amin always used to say to me: "if you cannot master your everyday life, how are you ever going to reach Self-Realization."  Thus, as students on the path of awakening, our first and last lesson was to develop self-mastery.
In I found an book written by Neville Goddard, and was amazed how deeply he was able to articulate a fundamental principle of self-mastery regarding the use of feeling and the power of the sub-consciousness.
I would like to share a few key principles from his book and suggest an action we can take to implement his principles.

Principle 1: “The conscious impresses the subconscious while the subconscious expresses all that is impressed upon it. The subconscious does not originate ideas but accepts as true those which the conscious mind feels to be true, and in a way known only to itself objectifies the accepted ideas. Therefore, through our power to imagine and feel, and our freedom to choose the idea we will entertain, we have control over creation.”

Action 1: To overcome present circumstances and achieve your goals for your future, write on a 3x5 card a positive affirmation of what you want to become.  Always choose something that positively moves you toward your desired goal, rather than something that tries to avoid a present condition.  For example, choose “I will develop complete and total self-confidence and I will never stop until I have attained it”; rather than, “I will not be insecure."

Principle 2: “Feeling is the one and only medium through which ideas are conveyed to the subconscious. Therefore, the person who does not control their feeling may easily impress the subconscious with undesirable states.”

Action 2: Use visualization, clearly imagine and picture what you want to happen. As you visualize, feel that this will occur as you see it in your mind’s eye. The sub-consciousness mind communicates by feeling and images.  Visualization is feeling translated into image.

Principle 3: “Every feeling makes a subconscious impression, and unless it is counteracted by a more powerful feeling of an opposite nature it must be expressed.  The dominant of two feelings is the one expressed.”

Action 3: Never doubt or second guess your that your affirmation or visualization will work!  Be patient. If a negative thought comes that tries to undermine your confidence or faith in your affirmation or visualization, do not accept it - you can counter it by the feeling of “knowing without doubt” that your affirmation or visualization will manifest.

Action 4: In life watch for the opportunities that will arise regarding your goal and act on them.

What you want to manifest will probably not fall in your lap all at once. Most of the time you can enhance your chances of getting what you visualize by taking some kind of action to help it manifest.

Here is an example: You need to move to a new home so you visualize, in detail, the kind of home you want (its looks, features, location, cost, etc.), and you also see yourself finding that home, walking through each room, even signing the lease!  Now, if you actually DO start looking for a new home, reading the adds on the paper, mentioning to others that you are looking, etc., what you have visualized will have an easier time coming to you.
